Tarte emphasEYES Waterproof Amazonian Clay Cream Eyeshadow & Brush

Diposkan oleh Pengetahuan dan Pengalaman on Thursday, June 30, 2011

There are days when I can barely contain my excitement. The day these four Tarte emphasEYES Waterproof Amazonian Clay Cream Eyeshadow & Brushes ($22.80) arrived was one of them. They are only available at QVC, but I received mine from Tarte. I am one lucky lady! Perhaps my love for cream shadows - and Tarte - has become legendary. These are among the best cream shadows I'm wearing. They are every bit as exciting as some of the makeup that's been getting all the attention in the last two weeks.

I've been using these rave-worthy shimmering treats on my eyes for a couple of weeks. The five shades were launched over a two-month period. I didn't understand how they escaped my notice at Tarte and Sephora until I discovered they were exclusive to QVC. Note to self: Read e-mails.

We'll have to chat with QVC because the little swatch photos do not do these beauties justice. They look dark and a little imposing. You have to click on the little square shade representations to flip the large photo to one that shows the colors in the pot in a more flattering light. Look at Seashell Pink. It looks brown in the little square at this link. Click on it, and you see the "real-life" look at right.

Each of the four colors I've been wearing is an everyday delight. I got a pretty decent full-sun photo of the shades before I dug into them. They are shown with Slate at top left, Moss at top right, Beach Bronze at bottom right, and Seashell Pink at lower left. Every one of these shades falls into my "love zone." They have exquisite shimmering color without being too conspicuous. I couldn't be happier with them!

For my arm photos, all taken in full sun, I used Tarte's fabulous cream shadow brush - the one that accompanies each emphasEYES Waterproof Amazonian Clay Cream Eyeshadow - and swatched in this order, top to bottom: Seashell Pink, Slate, Moss, and Beach Bronze. I applied them heavily so that I would get adequate colors for the photos. On my lids. I apply them with less oomph.

Seashell Pink has a tiny blue hue in it. It's a complex shade. Slate is hard for me to describe. Despite its name, which implies a blue-grey shade, I think it's a gorgeous taupe. Moss is moss green (or khaki), one of my favorite shades for eye shadow or clothing. Beach Bronze is bronze and beautiful.

These pigmented shadows stay put forever. Naturally, they sport some of Tarte's good-for-you signature ingredients. Micronized Amazonian clay intensifies the color pigments, while working to nourish skin, reduce surface oil, and improve overall texture for a beautiful application. Thanks to a botanical blend of natural plant waxes, the shadow glides on smoothly and forms an impermeable layer that protects against sweat, tears, and creasing for hours of wear time (up to 18 for me). I love their non-creasing quality. The colors do not migrate into the crease, as some well-regarded creams do.

Not only is this cream shadow super long-wearing, it works to infuse our delicate eyelids with Amazonian clay, aloe leaf extract, beeswax, and vitamins A and E. Because they are Tarte, the shadows are formulated without parabens, sodium laurel sulfate, mineral oil, petrolatum, synthetic fragrance, or phthalates.

Tarte has a special event coming up at QVC. On July 2, in four time periods (Midnight-1:00 am, Noon-1:00 pm, 5:00-6:00 pm, and 9:00 to 10:00 pm ET, there will be features on Tarte's high-performance naturals. With all of those times available Saturday, you should be able to tune in, if not on your television, then online as I do.

In the meantime, pop over to QVC to see these fabulous cream shadows. If you buy more than one, which I would find easy to do, you get a $3.00 discount on each additional shade - and save on shipping and handling. Wish you could tell them Best Things in Beauty sent you!

Tarte Smooth Operator Amazonian Clay Finishing Powder in Bronze

Diposkan oleh Pengetahuan dan Pengalaman on Tuesday, June 21, 2011

Tarte's new Smooth Operator Amazonian Clay Finishing Powder in Bronze ($28) is goof-proof! Want a bronzer you can't overdo? Check! Want a bronzer that will leave you looking like you had a week at the beach, without the expense? Check! Prefer to use makeup that's good for your skin? Check! Tarte has you covered.

Like the original, this micronized clay finishing powder mattifies the skin, minimizes the appearance of pores, and replenishes all skin types, while adding a natural touch of bronze to your complexion. This silky smooth finishing powder glides on evenly and imparts a healthy, natural warmth. The skin-smart Amazonian clay, nature's perfect ingredient, acts as a total skin balancer by reducing dryness and flakiness, improving clarity and texture, and removing surface oil to mattify skin for a soft and flawless lit-from-within finish. I know it seems counterintuitive that the powder could leave a matte finish while giving you a glow, but it manages - somehow. It even works to replenish and rehydrate the skin, with Tarte's Amazonian clay, natural pigments, and skinvigorating ingredients. It's formulated without mineral oil, parabens, petrolatum, phthalates, sulfates, or synthetic dyes or fragrances. Good for your skin - good for your looks!

The container has a plastic insert with one hole in the middle. You are supposed to press on both sides of the sifter hole to dispense the powder. It was designed to release just the right amount of powder for one application, without leaving you to worry about getting powder all over the place. Just use a fluffy brush and apply the powder all over the skin, or wherever you want to glow (the high points of the face, jawline, neck).

That little hole didn't suit me, so I started trying to pry the insert out of the container with a very small screwdriver. It was tenacious; Tarte designed it to stay there! I succeeded, but unfortunately chipped a small piece out of the lip of the screw top. No matter, once the cap is re-attached, there will be no drying inflow of air. Why did I do that? Because I'm pretty good at sweeping just the right amount of powder onto my brush, shaking off the excess, and applying it with ease. That worked for me quite well when applying this powder. That's not to say you should take my lead. The little dispensing hole should work for most because a little goes a long way. However, if you want to do your own thing, and if you have more patience than I do (take your time), you can flip out that little plastic insert without chipping anything!

The color is a beautiful sunlit bronze. Here's a photo of the powder, which you can see has a golden, matte bronze tint. I applied a swatch of the powder to my arm with a sponge-tipped applicator and struggled to get a photo that would show you that it has just a teeny tiny hint of pink/peach in it. That's what makes it so perfect for my skin! Many of us, particularly those with light coloring, tan naturally with a pink/peach hue. Tarte's Smooth Operator Amazonian Clay Finishing Powder in Bronze looks natural on my face.

My swatch photo was taken in full sun, and I applied the bronzing powder to my arm very heavily with a sponge-tipped applicator. The slight shimmer you see is sunlight. The yellow you see is a bruise. Concentrate on the left side of the swatch photo, and you'll see the beauty of the shade. I hope you can see the slight pink-peach tone of the bronze. It's so pretty!

I already deemed 2011 the year of the bronzer. Here's another one that should send every makeup-loving gal to the store for peek. Don't let this one disappear before you get there. I'll bet you come home with it! It's a great value and competes extremely favorably with bronzers twice the price. I'm lucky - Tarte sent mine for a look-see. I'll be using it often.

You can purchase Smooth Operator Amazonian Clay Finishing Powder in Bronze from Tarte, Sephora, Ulta, QVC ($42 there, with a brush included), and beauty.com. You really need to try it.

Tarte emphasEYES Amazonian Clay Waterproof Liner

Diposkan oleh Pengetahuan dan Pengalaman on Monday, June 20, 2011

Tarte has a striking new line-up in its Summer 2011 Collection. Their emphasEYES Amazonian Clay Waterproof Liner ($22), available in six shades, is a hit! From the blackest black to a lush khaki, there will be at least two shades that will speak to you. Not only that, you'll get three products in one - a budge-proof cream shadow and eyeliner with a fabulous brush that gives you the tool you to create both looks.

Infused with micronized clay and reinforced by a natural waterproofing agent, these plush shadow/liners are a must for creating intense and long-lasting high-definition eyes. Tarte's natural Amazonian clay is one of nature's perfect ingredients, lending deep color pigments while nourishing the skin, reducing surface oil and improving overall texture for smooth application. The botanical waterproofing agent is "earth engineered" from a blend of natural plant waxes to form an impermeable layer that protects against rain, sweat, tears, and creasing. This fusion of nature and technology results in an intense, smooth cream that can be smudged onto lids as an allover shadow or used as a high-definition liner. The double-ended brush makes that your choice.

Each emphasEYES shadow/liner is housed in an airtight jar to keep the product's cushiony texture intact. Some cream/gel shadows and liners dry out fairly quickly. They start life dry, and they get worse over time. Not this one! When you dip its companion brush into the product, you'll see why. It's like a fine cream, and it blends like a dream.

Here are four of the shades. I left the black one out of this photo (it's shown above), but you'll see swatches below. I had to brighten this photo a tad because it was cloudy outside when I took it.

From the lop left, moving clockwise, are brown, bronze, plum, and green. Those titles are much too humble - much simpler than these gorgeous shades. There's something special about each one. The brown is a deep, dark brown - in some lights almost indistinguishable from black. It's the perfect shade for those who don't find full-on jet black flattering by day. The green is a trendy khaki - as pretty as it gets. It's my personal favorite among favorites. I consider it a must-have.

The swatch photo at right shows all the shades Tarte sent me, except for black. For the top three, I used the shadow end of the companion brush, and at the bottom, I used the perfect, thin liner end. Green is at the top of my arm (my arm is not naturally yellow, but the bruise is healing from my tumble). Bronze is below, and Plum is shown below the bronze. At the bottom in this photo is Brown. You can see how dark and rich the shade is.

I wanted to attempt to show you the difference between the rich, deep Brown and Black shades. At the top of the photo at left I painted Brown. Black is below. If you look very carefully, you'll see the difference. The photo was taken in indirect sunlight. It was fairly bright out, but the sun wasn't shining.

The photo at right shows all five shades I have. I don't have Indigo, although I'd like to. Navy liners are among my favorites. Green is similar to the new Khaki Platine, but without as much shimmer. I'm not sure how it gets any better! Would it be appropriate for me to gush now?

Bronze is a rich shade, one that will flatter any complexion. The Plum is among the trendy shades for 2011. It may not be my best shade, but I'll bet it will work for so many gals. Black and Brown? Who can't use them forever?

It's so generous that Tarte provides a brush with each of these emphasEYES Amazonian Clay Waterproof Liners - as if their skinvigorating ingredients weren't enough! When Tarte named these liners waterproof, they weren't overstating that feature. When used as either a shadow or liner, they won't move once they set - and they set quickly. They are perfect for summer, when moisture attacks from all angles.

These shadow/liners apply with a creamy ease that will surprise you. You won't struggle, and you won't have to fuss and start over. If you have sensitive eyes, like I do, you will find Tarte's liners perfect. Make sure to screw the caps on tightly after you use them, and these liners will make you glamorous and happy for a very long time.

You can purchase emphasEYES Amazonian Clay Waterproof Liner from Tarte, Sephora, Ulta, QVC, and beauty.com. You really need to try at least one.

Tarte Vitamin-Infused Lip Gloss in Harmony and Heavenly

Diposkan oleh Pengetahuan dan Pengalaman on Tuesday, May 17, 2011

Tarte offers a trio of Vitamin-Infused Lip Glosses ($32, but a $63 value) that's a bargain. Today, I'm spotlighting two of them, Harmony and Heavenly. If you purchase the trio, you also get R&R (a sheer raspberry) and a pretty purple pouch too.

The dermatologist-tested formula is free of preservatives, parabens, phthalates, sulfates, and propylene glycol - things you don't want to ingest. Its unique formulation quickly absorbs to help improve the texture, tone, elasticity, and hydration of your lips. The skinvigorating antioxidant blend can help diminish the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, while helping to protect against environmental assaults.

The shades are powered by BORBA Nutriceuticals, along with vitamins A, C, and E and fruit and flower extracts to protect your lips. There are plenty of pretty colors available too. I think the trio is a good value. The individual glosses add up to much more money if you purchase them as singles.

I wanted to show you Harmony and Heavenly before I got too far down the road from their purchase. As you can see in my swatch photo, taken in full sun, they are extremely light in color. Harmony, at the top of this feature and the top of my arm, is a sheer nude. Heavenly, shown at right in the tube and below Harmony on my arm, is a sheer pink.

With their doe-foot applicators, fruity taste that disappears quickly (tasty glosses not being my favorite), and sheer colors, these glosses are perfect for a natural look outdoors. At the pool, on the beach or golf course and want a natural look? These are a great reach-for choice. They have a nice feel on the lips too. If the wind blows, your hair is unlikely to stick to your lips. Tarte's glosses will keep your lips pleasantly hydrated and looking shiny.

You can find Tarte's Vitamin-Infused Lip Glosses at Tarte's Web site and Sephora. Take a look! I think you'll like what you see. I want Nirvana now - in more ways than one.

Tarte Smooth Operator Amazonian Clay Illuminating Serum Giveaway Contest

Diposkan oleh Pengetahuan dan Pengalaman on Sunday, March 13, 2011

Congratulations to DRTVrMoi! She won the Tarte Smooth Operator Amazonian Clay Illuminating Serum.
Tarte's Smooth Operator Amazonian Clay Illuminating Serum is a natural skin brightener infused with Amazonian clay, vitamins, and tea extract to moisturize and replenish the skin as it adds a hint of glimmer. No matter your skin concern, Amazonian clay neutralizes your skin so you are left with a radiant complexion. I have no idea how it does that, but my dry skin is happy with it.

Oily skin? Amazonian clay minimizes oil in and around pores to balance skin and keep products in place. Dry skin? This nourishing clay hydrates skin naturally to restore moisture. Combination skin? Amazonian clay will intuitively identify your skin concerns and deliver benefits to restore harmony. The result is makeup that wears better, longer, and truer!

When I featured this beauty last week, I mentioned we would have a giveaway. Here it is! How can you enter to win? Just leave a comment here once. After you comment, feel free to send me an e-mail at bestthingsinbeautycontests@gmail.com and identify your comment. I will tweet the contest this evening, and you can simply retweet it to earn that second entry. You can earn a third entry by following the blog - either here or on Twitter (any entrant who is already a follower will automatically earn the follower point, but you can save me time by telling me you're a follower in your comment). Tarte Smooth Operator Amazonian Clay Illuminating Serum

Diposkan oleh Pengetahuan dan Pengalaman on Tuesday, March 8, 2011

The moment I saw Tarte's Smooth Operator Amazonian Clay Illuminating Serum ($32), I purchased one. Then my friends at Tarte sent me one. It was an exciting time.

This natural skin brightener is infused with Amazonian clay, vitamins, and tea extract to moisturize and replenish the skin as it adds a hint of glimmer. Who wouldn't find that exciting?

No matter your skin concern, Amazonian clay neutralizes your skin so you are left with a radiant complexion. I have no idea how it does that, but my dry skin is happy with it. Oily skin? Amazonian clay minimizes oil in and around pores to balance skin and keep products in place. Dry skin? This nourishing clay hydrates skin naturally to restore moisture. Combination skin? Amazonian clay will intuitively identify your skin concerns and deliver benefits to restore harmony. The result is makeup that wears better, longer, and truer!

Tarte says, reach "skin enlightenment" by applying a pearl-sized amount alone or mixing the illuminator with your foundation. This natural skin brightener is infused with Amazonian clay, vitamins, and tea extract to moisturize and replenish skin as it adds a hint of glimmer - and tint for me. What else would you expect from Tarte, home of skinvigorating ingredients?

The ingredient list of good stuff for your skin is too long to recite here. It includes sugar cane extract to help improve the skin's texture; apple, lemon, and orange extracts, a trifecta of natural fruit antioxidants that nourish the skin; camellia oleifera leaf to add healing benefits; ginseng root with stress-relieving and antioxidant properties; ginkgo biloba to reduce inflammation; and vitamins A, C, and E. By now, you know Tarte doesn't use the nasty stuff or test on animals. It's a cruelty-free company.

This was a hard product to swatch for you. I applied it basically unblended at the top of my arm. You can see that it's skin-toned, but darker than my lily-white skin. I blended it out, but not totally, to show you a blended swatch below. My photo was taken in the waning sunlight of afternoon. You'll see from this photo why I said above that it was a tinted illuminator for me. It carries enough tint to give me some golden color while it's adding a gleam to my skin.

It's actually a perfect summer highlighter for me. I can use it in the same way I would use NARS Super Orgasm Illuminator. For that reason, I'm excited by it. I love color options!

You can find Tarte's Smooth Operator Amazonian Clay Illuminating Serum at Tarte's Web site, Sephora, Ulta, Beauty.com, Henri Bendel, QVC, and boutiques nationwide. If you want a fabulous summer illuminator for fair skin or a year-round one for most other skin tones, you will love it.

Since I have two Smooth Operator Illuminators, one is destined for a giveaway contest in the near future. I don't think I can use up both - particularly given the number of highlighters I own, love, and use. One of you will be able to love it too - gratis!

Tarte emphasEYES Inner Rim Brightener

Diposkan oleh Pengetahuan dan Pengalaman on Thursday, March 3, 2011

You need this! Tarte's emphasEYES Inner Rim Brightener ($18) is an unassuming beauty product at first glance. Use this pencil once, and you will consider it a necessity.

I have frequent redness in my waterline. Right now, as I write, there's not a trace. If I were wearing my contact lenses; running around exposed to environmental assaults; working at the computer for long hours; or suffering from seasonal allergies (most of the time) or sleep failure, I would have varying degrees of redness. Even when I don't "see" the redness, it will show up in photographs, as Loyd Cassler and I discovered one day when he was taking pictures of me at Saks. He finally took Giorgio Armani's white eyeliner and applied it on my lower waterline to banish the red.

Tarte has introduced a better shade than white, a much more natural shade, to brighten your eyes and make you look peppy. The soft, fine tip of Tarte's Inner Rim brightener gently and easily glides along the lower inner rim (waterline) and inner corner of the eyes to instantly brighten the eyes for a wide-awake look. Use it, and your eyes will grow in size instantly! This multitasking pencil can even be used to highlight the brow bone for an even more eye-opening experience.

I was privileged to receive one from Tarte. Previously available in a set, emphasEYES natural Inner Rim Brightener is now sold on its own. Like all Tarte makeup, it is formulated with none of the nasty stuff. It is formulated with skinvigorating ingredients.
  • Aloe leaf extract to help create a moisturizing formula
  • Beeswax to create a natural protective barrier between the skin and the environment
  • Mineral pigments, colors and dyes derived from natural minerals that are known to soothe and soften the skin
  • Vitamin A, an antioxidant that helps remove free radicals, promote collagen production, and retain moisture
  • Vitamin E, a natural preservative that also acts as an anti-inflammatory emollient and protects against free radicals
It's a simple product, but so incredibly effective, useful, and flattering. Everyone should own one of these pencils!

You can purchase Tarte's emphasEYES Inner Rim Brightener at Tarte's Web site, Sephora, Ulta, Beauty.com, Henri Bendel, and QVC. It's available now.

Tarte Provocateur Amazonian Clay Shimmering Powder Giveaway Contest

Diposkan oleh Pengetahuan dan Pengalaman on Wednesday, February 23, 2011

Congratulations to Estelle! She won this beauty.
I'm feeling generous - and a little crazy - today, so let's do a second giveaway contest this week! I told you last week about Tarte's fabulous new Provocateur Amazonian Clay Shimmering Powder. I have one in Champagne I am going to give away.

Provocateur Amazonian Clay Shimmering Powder ($30) is a finely-milled powder infused with Amazonian clay, "nature's most perfect ingredient." This new highlighter was introduced for Spring 2011.

Amazonian Clay is rich in nutrients, with benefits for all skin types. Is your skin oily? Amazonian clay minimizes oil in and around the pores to balance skin and keep the product in place. Is your skin dry? The nourishing clay hydrates skin naturally to restore moisture. Have combination skin? Amazonian clay will intuitively identify your skin type and condition and deliver benefits to restore harmony. The result for everyone is promised to be makeup that wears better, longer, and truer!

Like all Tarte Cosmetics, these powders are also filled with good-for-your-skin ingredients, such as vitamins A, C, and E, They are formulated without all the things we try to avoid, including phthalates, synthetic fragrances and dyes, and sodium lauryl sulfate. I'm sure you know Tarte abhors animal testing.

This finely milled powder can be applied to cheeks, brow bones, and décolletage for a completely customizable glow - add a little for a soft, subtle sheen or add more for lavishly enhanced radiance I like the powder because it's creamy. I think that's one reason it's long-lasting.

It's available in two shades: Champagne and Rose. Both are gorgeous. They both are packaged in a padded, quilted compact with a mirror and round sponge applicator. I like the fact that the compact color mirrors the shade, so there's no guessing when I reach for one.

Champagne is the golden shade. How can you enter to win it? Just leave a comment here once. After you comment, feel free to send me an e-mail at bestthingsinbeautycontests@gmail.com and identify your comment. You can never be too careful about sharing an e-mail address you care about on a blog, so feel free to follow this step (an alternative is to code your e-mail, e.g., myname at gmail dot com, in your comment).

You can "earn" a second entry by tweeting this contest. Just make sure to include "@BTiBeauty" (without the quotes) in your tweet. I will tweet the contest soon, and you can simply retweet it to earn that second entry. You can earn a third entry by following the blog - either here or on Twitter (any entrant who is already a follower will automatically earn the follower point, but you can save me time by telling me you're a follower in your comment). I can't track followers through a third-party service, so you need to be on Google's list for me to verify the entry.

The deadline for entries will be Monday, February 28, at midnight. The next morning, I will use a random number generator (random.org) to select the winner. I will e-mail the winner at that time. The winner will have 48 hours to reply to my message and provide a shipping address. After 48 hours, the prize will be forfeited, and another winner will be selected. Make sure to check your e-mail - and look in your spam folder - when the contest ends.

This contest is open to U. S. and Canadian residents only. I still can't stand in line at the Post Office to send international packages. I can do Click-n-Ship. I promise, international readers, we should be able to go back to completely open contests as soon as I finish intensive PT.

Good luck!

Champagne is a gorgeous golden shade, while Rose adds a rose gold gleam. Naturally, I ordered both. I couldn't decide; both shades looked gorgeous online. Both are!

I knew getting a photo to show you two highlighting shades would be tough, and it was. I took photos indoors and out, and I settled on a so-so picture taken indoors. I had applied the shimmer powders using a sponge-tipped applicator to get as much color as I could, and I applied them heavily - not at all the way you will use them.

Rose is shown at the top of my arm, with Champagne below. I can use either shade, depending on my makeup color scheme.

These shimmering powders are a buy! At $30, you can have both without feeling guilty. They will take you through summer with a gleam where you want it!

I purchased mine from Sephora. You can also find them at Tarte's Web site.
