This light eyed, 5’8” high, dusky colored Bengali beauty was born on 1st January 1979 in Delhi, but she was raised in Kolkata where she spent major portion of her life. Her name Bipasha quite aptly means “Deep, dark, desire”. Bipasha is the second of three daughters in her family. Her family consists of her mother, her father, her elder sister Bidisha, and her younger sister Bijoyeta.

Bipasha says her career as an actor was not planned but accidental. She wanted to have a career as a doctor or a chartered accountant, but she gave up her dream of becoming a doctor when she passed out while dissecting a rat.

Bipasha started modeling at a very young age. She won the Ford Supermodel of the World contest at the age of seventeen; she was also named Tulips Miss Super Vivacious. She is consistently ranked as Asia’s sexiest women. She started her acting career with Ajnabee and was an instant hit. Her performance in the film won her the Filmfare Best Debut award. She went on to sign a lot of films after that.

Bipasha’s next big hit came with the release of “Raaz” in 2002. Bipasha dated her co-star Dino Morea for quite some time. The couple was a real hot topic for gossips and rumors before Bipasha dumped Dino for the successful and hot model cum actor John Abhrahim. The couple’s chemistry together is amazing which they successfully brought to the silver screen in the controversial film “Jism” where Bipasha together with John gave quite a hot and sizzling performance. The film marked the duo as sex symbols.

Abraham and Basu are now rumoured to be engaged. Even though Basu is a practicing Hindu and Abraham a Christian, both families have accepted the couple. Basu has stated in an interview that even though she was raised a Hindu, she believes that "God is everywhere, in every religion" and a fact everyone must accept. She also stated that all religious groups deserve respect.

Bipasha following her image did quite a lot of hot and teasing roles in films like No Entry, Phir Hera Pheri, Omkara, Dhoom 2 etc. At one point of time she was established by her critics as an item girl, but she proved them wrong with her amazing acting performances in films like “Corporate” and “Alag”.

The journey has just begun for Bipasha and she is sure to reach greater heights of success in years to come.
